Building B

Smart Living Lab Building

Developments

The bluefactory site has a phased development in keeping with the real estate strategy established by BFF SA. The first phase sees the construction of Building B and the Smart Living Lab building (nearly 10,000 m2 surface). This is being followed by the rehabilitation of two listed buildings: the grain silo and the Grey Hall (formerly Cardinal’s bottling plant). The second phase, in the western part of the site, will include housing with parking and will definitively requalify the entrance to the site (by 2026-2030).

Project Sponge city

Climate resilience is central to urban developments. Faced with the emergence of new environmental and societal challenges, more and more Sponge Cities are flourishing around the world. In Switzerland, Fribourg is a pioneer city and canton, applying this urban planning model on the bluefactory site.

Energy project

The Energy Strategy 2050 implies profound changes with, notably, the progressive exit from fossil fuels. To meet environmental challenges, efficient and sustainable energy solutions will be implemented at the bluefactory site, making it possible to be ahead of energy policy objectives.

Building B

Building B will be planned, built, and operated using the BIM (Building Information Modelling) method. The digital 3D model will streamline and industrialise construction processes, contributing to a reduced carbon footprint.

Smart Living Lab Building

An agreement signed in 2014 between the Swiss Federal Institute of Technology Lausanne (EPFL) enabled the creation of the EPFL Fribourg branch in bluefactory and, since 2015, to integrate the Swiss Innovation Park.
