As part of its strategic cultural programme, BFF SA is pleased to welcome the new creation of Fribourg director Joséphine de Weck.
Le Train is a one-woman show focused totally on the human being’s voice and her restricted gestures. With this stripped-down approach, the performer’s feet are fixed to the ground. Immobile, she uses only her voice and physical presence. Light is the only moving element on stage.
Designed in collaboration with lighting designer Michael Egger, the scenography is based on technology developed especially for the show. The stage space is sculpted by remotely controlled motorised projectors, designed and made-to-measure using 3D printing.
A narrative tracking flight and reconstruction
Le Train tells the story of a woman escaping a controlling relationship. She takes a train to get away. The account unfolds as the journey progresses: loss, codependency, the difficulty of freeing oneself. Words become a refuge. The language is breathless, words repeated.

Acting out the relationship between human and technology
Joséphine de Weck and Michael Egger have been creatively exploring ways in which technology transforms performing arts. What do we choose to delegate to the machine?
In Le Train, it is the lighting — not the performer — that is mobile. This reversal creates a disquieting feeling with the living body on stage being apparently manipulated by technology. This tension highlights the very essence of the human presence, its vital impetus confronted with constraints.
The show is the stage adaptation of Joséphine de Weck’s second novel, La petite lutte, published by La Veilleuse.
