Calls for projects
Aware of the challenge of finding space and time for reflection solely dedicated to research, bluefactory supports professional artists upstream of the production phase of their projects. Within the bluefactory ecosystem, artists can take advantage of research residencies, provided that their project is at the crossroads of the arts and sciences.
In partnership with the University of Fribourg, bluefactory defends the interests of artists, both local and from elsewhere, by financially supporting the artistic team for a research period of between one and four weeks.
Support
Successful applications receive the following services:
- Remuneration: Artists hired under an employment contract receive a gross salary of CHF 250 per person per day. Bluefactory also covers the employer’s share of social security contributions. Self-employed artists receive an allowance of CHF 280 per person per day. Other expenses related to the residency remain the responsibility of participants.
- A workspace: Different types of premises can be made available depending on the time of year and availability between May and September.
- Promotional support for the research outcome: The approach and its results may be the subject of photographic or video coverage.
- Support during the residency: Participants benefit from advice from and introductions to people or organisations likely to contribute to their research process.

Criteria
Applications must meet the following criteria:
- Be supported by a professional artist.
- Form a duo with at least one scientist from the University of Fribourg.
One or more entities present on the bluefactory site (EPFL, HEIA-FR, SMEM, etc.) or other organisations may also be involved in the process. The financial support covers remuneration of the artists only. It is therefore up to the scientists to define their level of involvement in the project.
- Propose a research project at the intersection of the arts and sciences, including the humanities and social sciences, with no direct link to a future confirmed creation/production.
- Carry out your research in the accommodation made available on site. Some research may be conducted off-site, in a studio or workshop, when the nature of the project requires it.
Support request
Selection is made on the basis of an application.
Incomplete applications will not be taken into consideration.
